Math Journaling

I had someone ask me a good question and I thought I would forward that question and the suggestions we discussed together on to everyone in case it may help others when implementing math journals into the classroom.

Questions
I had the best intentions of incorporating a math journal into my center time, but have not come up with an effective way to do so.  I was hoping you could give me some helpful tips on how to introduce this and what types of problems I could present to them at this point that would correlate with our program and would encourage some more HOT.

Suggestions

Vocabulary building- Have students write the vocabulary word, definition and draw a picture explaining what it means.  Also give examples.

After the summarize section in the lessons, there is a math journal prompt.  This allows the students to use pictures or words to explain the concept learned in each days lesson.  These questions can be printed off and placed in a center.

The extended constructed response question in the assessment book (from form b) of each chapter test would be a good journal question to use at the end of each chapter.

Problem of the day questions would be good for journal use.
